Dream Corps is "one of the first of its kind in the U.S. academy, an academic activism at its best."

— Professor Ralph Litzinger, Director of Asian/Pacific Studies Institute of Duke University

Approach

We build libraries. We believe libraries that combine quality resources and community participation offer a solid way towards quality education for all in China.

We promote libraries as public space. In these libraries children enjoy learning and playing, adults read and acquire information, and community cultural activities find their home.

We champion local initiatives. We open libraries through supporting the initiatives of local schools and communities and recruit librarians from the schools and communities that they serve.

We cultivate a genuine relationship with the local people. We strive to learn from and understand their lives and environment, involve them in envisioning, constructing, and evaluating the libraries, and listen to all parties involved: government officials, community leaders, school teachers, parents and students.

We promote the use and awareness of libraries through fun-filled activities. We run summer activities for children at our library sites including, but not limited to, reading program, English teaching, essay contest, talent show, art and technology projects.

We return every year until the libraries become sustained by the local communities they serve.
