    The essence of our approach lies in the dynamic integration of volunteer participation, educational resources and assistance, and education research. We engages volunteers from outside and inside of China, local teachers, and education researchers to work as a team in improving educational environment in rural areas and migrant communities in China. While we champion practical program implementation through personal involvement, we also emphasize understanding the real challenges the underprivileged communities face from this practical work. Such understanding is in turn put to test in an iteratve fashion, leading to continuously improvement both of our programs and of our knowledge of our program sites.

    Take our library project as an example,

  • We design libraries to be enjoyable learning environments. In these libraries, children enjoy learning and playing and community cultural activities find their home.
  • We open libraries through supporting the initiatives of local communities and recruit librarians from the communities they serve. We mobilize local human resources and actively promote libraries as public space.
  • We advocate libraries as centers for adult education in areas such as financial management, medical care, legal knowledge, and practical skill development, so that libraries may become a platform for public information exchange.
  • We engage volunteers to run fun-filled summer activities for children at our libraries including, but not limited to, reading program, English teaching, essay contest, talent show, as well as art and technology projects.

  • Through promoting locally sustained libraries and cultivating self-guided learning and reading, the ultimate hope of Dream Corps is that children growing up in underprivileged communities may have equal confidence and preparedness to embrace their own future and pursue their own their dreams in a globalized information society.
