Chen, Huaiyuan(Harold)

President

Harold Chen is currently a Ph.D student in the Education, Culture, and Society Program at the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania. He studied cognitive science ( B.S.) and religious studies (M.A.) at Duke University. He has been a volunteer for Dream Corps since 2004.

Tan, Jingyuan(Linda)

Acting President

Linda is a Masters of Science student at the University of Toronto (Canada). Her research focuses on the evolution of multi-drug resistance in pathogenic bacteria. Linda first joined Dream Corps during its 2005 summer program as a volunteer in a rural elementary school in Leping county of Jiangxi province (south-east China). Currently, she is spearheading the charity status application for Dream Corps Canada (DCC), and is the president of Dream Corps Canada University of Toronto Chapter (DCCUT). Linda was born in the city of Chengdu (south-east China) and had immigrated to Toronto at age 11.

Guo, Jiawei(Kawai)

Co-Vice President of Alumni Outreach

Jiawei is a master student in Aeronautics at the California Institute of Technology. He grew up in Hong Kong, but his hometown is a small rural village in the Fujian province where his grandparents used to grow crops on the farm. He has lived there for a while when he was young. Having lived in these places with contrasting educational resources, he realized how much education has given him to pursue his dream. This is also a reason he joined DreamCorps–He hopes all children in China has the opportunity to pursue their dream.

Liao, Zhenyu(James)

Vice President of Promotion and Publicity

President of UVA Chapter

James volunteered in Dream Corps summer rural library project in 2006 at the Lao Chang Ying Village in Henan Province. In 2006 Fall, he created the Dream Corps University of Virginia Chapter. James grew up in a small town in Zhejiang, China. He came to U.S. at age 14 and graduated from Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland. His passion for rural children comes from his own childhood time spent in local villages. He believes the old saying "Growing trees is a decade-long business. Cultivating person is a century-long project." Aside from his work for China rural development, he is also researching on solar energy and currently co-leading the business team for Solar Car Special Topic course in U.Va.

Liu, Yan

Vice President for Training

Liu, Yan volunteered in Dream Corps as a team leader in 2005 summer, when she was a doctoral student in University of Maryland. After graduation in 2007, she works in Educational Research Institute in Xiamen University as an assistant professor. Her research interest include alternative education and alternative development, and the role of civil society in institutional reform.

Lou, Jingjing

Vice President of Programming

Jingjing came to US for her graduate school education after she received a BA from Peking University. She is now a doctoral student in the Education Policy Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. Jingjing has been doing studies on higher education reforms in transition countries such as China and Russia for a couple years. At the same time, she has conducted research on general education and development issues as well. Her current research interest and her dissertation topic is on rural education in China, especially how rural students construct their identities through schooling. Jingjing is currently a Chancellorʼs Fellow at Indiana University and a Spencerʼs Fellow for year 2007-2008. She has worked as an intern or consultant for NGOs like Plan China, Shaanxi Womenʼs Federation, and Dream Corps. Jingjing started working with Dream Corps in 2004. She has traveled to China for fieldwork related to rural education studies every summer since 2005. In 2007, Jingjing spent over 4 months teaching English in a rural middle school in Shaanxi province, and also served as team leader for one of the DC volunteer teams there.

Meng, Xianwei

Vice President of Recruitment

Xianwei (Victor) Meng is currently a B.A. student majoring in mathematics at Wabash College. Victor first participated in Dream Corps during the 2006 summer program as a volunteer in a rural elementary school in Hunan province.

Yu, Lei

Vice President of Technology

Lei is an undergraduate student in Electrical Engineering at Universiyt of Toronto.Lei volunteered in library and education project during summer 2007 at Desheng Village in Jiangxi Province. He is taking charge of the website maintenance and relevant technical support.He believes that education can change the world. Lei was born in city of Shanghai and came to Canada at age 19.

Zhang, Ke

Vice President of Fundraising

Ke is a management consultant at Deloitte Inc. She has been actively involved in various rural development projects in both China and Kenya. Ke first joined Dream Corps in 2006, where she coordinated and hosted the first fundraising event for Dream Corps Canada (DCC). She is now continuing her effort in fundraising, as well as in raising awareness of rural development and rural education. Ke was born in the city of Nanjing and had immigrated to Canada at age 17.

Zhang, Qian

Vice President of Site Management

Qian majored in labor and social security in Jinan University and is now the Vice President of Site Management and China representative. She joined the DC family since the summer volunteering program in 2006, when she took the role of the Jiangxi team leader. Before this, she had volunteered, for several years, in a Dream Corps affiliated library in Yingjialing village (rural Jinan), she also participated in development activities in rural Hubei, Guizhou and Shangdong provinces. Since her graduation in 2007, she has been engaged in Yingjialing as a full time librarian. She is a strong supporter of Dream Corps' mission and she hopes to transpire change through actions.

Zheng, Sarry

Co-Vice President of Alumni Outreach

Sarry had volunteered in 2007 summer at Sichuan, Yibin with Dream Corps. Currently, she is in her 3rd year specializing environmental health with nutritional science option at University of Toronto. Born in a small developing migrant city called Batou at Inner Mongolia, she has developed a strong passion to help the underprivileged children in China. She believes that life is about learning, share what you learn and contribute what you can.
