Through our Summer Volunteer Program, we recruit and send volunteers to work at our program sites every summer. Recruited volunteers first go through a four-week online training period and a four-day training camp in Beijing. After training, volunteers will travel in teams to their respective program sites to work for about three weeks. When the work is completed, volunteers return to Beijing for a concluding camp where they share their experiences with each other and with experts in rural education and social work and Dream Corps organizers.
Dream Corps volunteers are mainly Chinese-speaking students and professionals studying or working in North America and China but also include foreign students with a sincere interest in China and the ability to speak Mandarain.
For many volunteers, our Summer Volunteer Program will be their first time to experience life in rural China. Volunteers not only provide educational resources directly to those in need and ensure the appropriate use of such resources, but also gain a deeper understanding of China, of the rural community they work in, and of themselves through this experience.
